A major road accident happened along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on the morning of August 28, 2025. A Mersan-operated bus lost control while heading toward Fairview and crashed into several vehicles. The collision involved a UV Express, nine other vehicles, and five motorcycles, leaving at least 10 people injured.
The accident caused significant disruption across multiple lanes, leading to heavy traffic in the area. After the incident, members of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) quickly attended to the injured passengers while the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Road Emergency Group began the process of towing the wrecked bus, which had come to a stop against the concrete barriers of the MRT-7 construction site.
Initial reports indicate that the bus driver experienced a brake failure, prompting him to crash into the avenue’s center island to avoid further collisions. This prompt decision potentially prevented more severe injuries.
The injured individuals received medical attention at local hospitals, including East Avenue Medical Center, Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, and Commonwealth Hospital. Thankfully, none of the injuries reported were classified as serious.
Authorities from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) are currently investigating the incident. The driver has been taken into custody by the Quezon City Traffic District for further questioning regarding the events leading up to this multi-vehicle collision. As this incident unfolds, it raises ongoing concerns about traffic safety and vehicle maintenance on the busy roads of Metropolitan Manila.
