Rhenz Abando makes a comeback with Anyang JungKwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League

Rhenz Abando is set to return to the Anyang JungKwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korea Basketball League (KBL) after recovering from a back injury. Last season, he played for the same team, averaging 8.48 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assist. He previously participated in the East Asia Super League (EASL) Final Four in Cebu alongside fellow Filipino imports, including Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao.

This season, Abando will occupy the Asian Import quota spot previously held by Javi Gomez de Liaño, who transferred to Anyang from Terrafirma in the PBA. The Red Boosters ended the last KBL season with a record of 25-29.

A former NCAA Most Valuable Player, Abando has recently excelled with Strong Group-Philippines during the William Jones Cup. As part of coach Charles Tiu’s squad, he contributed to the team’s back-to-back title victories, marking a significant achievement for the country.

Originating from La Union, Abando has been included in head coach Tim Cone’s expanded 16-man pool for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend recent practices due to his commitment to Strong Group as they prepare for the Asian tournament in Jeddah from August 5 to 17.

With a renewed focus in Korea, Abando aims to make a comeback to the national team following his participation in the FIBA World Cup held in the Philippines in 2023. His journey in the KBL and international competitions continues to highlight the talent of Filipino basketball players abroad.
